2009 Romeo Forbes Children’s Storywriting Competition Open to Submissions

Happy New Year! Start the year right and join CANVAS' 5th Annual Romeo Forbes Children's Storywriting Competition! This year's contest is based on an original untitled oil on canvas painting by Juanito Torres (pictured above - click on the picture to see a larger version). Please read the rules carefully… there are a number of changes from our previous competitions, not least of which is a P5,000.00 increase in the cash prize. :-) In addition to receiving P35,000.00 in cash and a trophy, the winning author will also see his/her story rendered and published as a full color children's book in mid-2010.Contest details here. By Moon Alone Fantasy Fiction Contest

Filipino artist Honoel A. Ibardolaza (nicknamed HAI) is sponsoring the first ever By Moon Alone fantasy fiction contest. The challenge: "In less than 2000 words, write a short story depicting a character's encounter with a dragon."

On that note, would anyone know if Liwayway still accepts fiction contributions? I've emailed them asking if any of their magazines (Liwayway, Bannawag, Bisaya and Hiligaynon) still accept fiction, especially spec fic. I certainly hope I didn't breach protocol by doing so. Updates, if any, will be posted here.
Philippine Genre Stories Writing Contest #3
I've been failing to plug these for some time, but now I'm catching up. Philippine Genre Stories has a running contest where they put up illustrations, and readers are invited to write a 500-word (max) story around each one.
The entries are judged, and the winning pieces are published in future issues of PGS. The writers of the winning pieces get a free copy of the next issue and P100.

1. Dean Alfar has posted the final call for submissions to Philippine Speculative Fiction vol. 3. Deadline is on September 15.
2. Philippine Genre Stories is accepting Christmas-themed stories for its December special until October 5.
3. The Fully Booked contest I linked to earlier has an October 31 deadline.

I've been wondering if there were more speculative fiction blogs in Filipino that are out there. For those who are still looking, I do recommend Ian Madrid's Planetang Pinoy Scifi and Jun Ferreras' fiction, over at his Philstories account.
